What Was The Vietnam War?

 What was The Vietnam War?

What Was The Vietnam War, by Jim O’Connor, tells about the Vietnam War and the political problems of the time. First, the war started when South and North Vietnam fought over what type of government to have and then the U.S. got involved, and war broke out. Then, Many people at home were mad about the Vietnam War, and a lot of protests happened. Another chapter told about JFK, the president of the United States. Then another chapter was about president Lendon V Johnson. The book shared a story by John McCain, who was a Navy fighter pilot who was shot down over North Vietnam. He was captured by the Vietcong and he went to a prisoner-of-war camp in Hanoi. His Dad was a high-ranking admiral in the US Navy and his captors offered him an early release.  John refused this special favor and remained a prisoner of war for another 5 years because he didn’t want to leave his fellow prisoners of war.

I like this book because it is exciting and I like to learn about war. I learned a lot about Vietnam. One thing I learned was the soldier were not treated well. I thought the coolest chapter was about John and how he didn't leave the people behind.  Also, I hope to go to Vietnam one day, in the book it said it was a big tourist place.
